Por fin es carnaval - Lesson #5

Lesson 5-Activities

  • Divide the class into small groups and give each group the remaining pictures from the book. Have them write a few sentences that describe the pictures.
  • Ask the groups to show their pictures to the class and to describe them.
  • Add information to the SQA chart and the T-chart.

Assessment

  • Use a post-it-type note to record information about the different groups and individual student's participation in the groups. Are all of the students in a group participating and offering ideas? Are they speaking in Spanish most of the time? Are the students' descriptions interesting and detailed? Are they able to get their message across to the other members of the group?

Additional Activities:

  • If they are available at your market, cook some Peruvian purple or yellow potatoes for the students to taste. The Incas cultivated hundreds of different kinds and colors of potatos. They made a dehydrated potato called chuño from the potatoes. Chuño gave them food to eat during the cold months when crops didn't grow.

Objectives Students will:

  • Describe pictures from the book in small groups and to the class;
  • Write and/or read and copy information on the SQA chart and the T-chart.

  • Communication 1.3 present information to the class about their pictures.
